PEBC: What You Need to Know: 5HT3 Antagonists

Examples: ondansetron, palonosetron, granisetron

Indication: nausea and vomiting (due to chemotherapy, radiation or gastrointestinal causes)

Oral Doses:

Ondansetron: up to every 8 hours

Palonosetron: once daily

Granisetron: once or twice daily

Adverse Effects:

-headache

-constipation

-fatigue

-QT interval prolongation

Drug Interactions:

-additive QT interval prolongation with other strong agents

-serotonin syndrome: when combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOI triptans

-multiple agents are metabolized by CYP1A2, 2D6 and 3A4
