PEBC: What You Need to Know: Sotalol

Indication: atrial fibrillation

Dosing: twice daily, dose reduce in renal impairment

Contraindication: not recommended in heart failure less than 40% ejection fraction due to increased mortality

Adverse Effects:

-torsades de pointes and QT interval prolongation

-bradycardia

-dizziness

-fatigue

Drug Interactions:

-other QT interval prolonging drugs

-careful with other heart rate reducing drugs such as digoxin and calcium channel blockers - reduce sotalol dose by 50%
